Our precious little Lumi is available for adoption - we're in northwest Indiana - Chicago IL suburbs but open to adopters further away if they are the right fit and willing to come meet her.
Lumi's story started out sad, but she is a resilient and strong little girl that is determined to make the best of the rest of her life.
She was one of 10 little dogs that were found after their "owner" passed away- locked in cages, covered in filth and feces (Lumi was so matted she was immobile and had mold growing on her hair), with nothing to eat but some chicken food. They were starving to death- Lumi was only 2.9lbs at her initial intake and is now at a healthy weight of 4.6lbs.
Lumi is a blind adult (estimated 5-8 year old) female poodle mix. She does have some genetic abnormalities which include her microphthalmia (tiny eyeballs) and only 3 toes per foot. She is so sweet and just learning how to be a dog- her favorite thing to do is to be close to her people and be snuggled and carried around- she likes riding in the stroller and being carried in the puppy sling. She is fine with other respectful dogs and kids and hasn't shown any aggression - though she does like to give playful nibbles on hands when she's excited and comfortable with her people.
Before rescue she had likely never seen daylight or touched grass. She will need a patient and loving home to work with her on house training- she's doing well with a schedule of going out and using potty pads indoors.
She is current on shots, hw negative and being spayed and getting a dental this week. She is currently on twice daily OTC lubricating eye drops as well as optimmune ointment- but the vet believes that her eyes may not need this long term after a few months of continuous use.
We would love to help answer any questions if you're interested- or if you'd like to share her on your page- please help us find her perfect family.
