Meet Nicholas “Nick” Named after a blind scientist and mathematician, Nick is a remarkable Carolina Dog who shows every day that blindness doesn’t limit his ability to live a full, confident life—it simply means he experiences the world a little differently.Nick is an approximately 8-year-old, 73-lb Carolina Dog with a sharp mind, an exceptional nose, and a strong independent spirit. He navigates his surroundings using scent, memory, and confidence, often preferring to figure things out on his own rather than rely on assistance. Intelligent, determined, and engaging, Nick has a personality that makes a lasting impression.Nick has been with his ARPO foster family for one year, and while he has done wonderfully in foster care, it’s time for him to find his special person and a home of his very own. He is affectionate and loyal with those he trusts and forms deep bonds with his people. He loves his twice-daily walks and will stand patiently while his walking vest is put on. Once outside, Nick is eager to explore and can be strong on leash—especially when he encounters interesting scents or wants to greet another dog. He will do best with an adopter who is physically capable, confident, and comfortable providing calm, consistent guidance.Nick does well with other dogs once properly introduced and tends to prefer female dogs. Because he cannot see where barking is coming from, he may react defensively, unsure whether another dog is approaching or if he is being attacked. In his foster home, however, he coexists well with resident dogs and cats, showing curiosity more than concern. A dog sitter has also shared that he did well with smaller dogs.Nick is:
